With a bursting celebrity clientele, Arsen Gurgov has made his eponymous salon on the Upper East Side one-stop-chopping for stylistas from coast to coast. Made famous for “ambush make-overs” on the Today show, Gurvov spent 20 years under the tutilege Louis Licari before opening his own space on East 60th Street, which was designed by architect Vicente Hernandez.  The exquisite salon, on the penthouse floor of a high-rise between Park and Madison Avenues, offers hair cuts and styles, color, Keratin treatments and his signature “hot scissors” — shears that prevent split ends by sealing hair cuticles with simmering 300 degree blades. The treatment is also the ideal method for taming frizzy and fly-away hair. Gurgov and his team style create, treat and style any type of hair, from curly and wave to smooth and sexy. The stylist is famous for his instinctive understanding of symmetry, angles and shape, and how they can accentuate the visage. “I take the look that a client wants and adapt it, altering it to suit her face,” says the stylist. “I love to find the gold at the end of the rainbow—the perfect integration of a client’s fantasy hairdo with one that is reality-based for her face. I enjoy engineering the makeover and then showing her how to maintain that look with ease.”
